Chronicles of a Sick Busy Bee

Stomach is cramping, your face has taken on the shape of a blowfish, you’re cranky, and cuddling with your furry friend just sounds comfortable. Unfortunately, with the adult-ing lifestyle, ain’t nobody got time for that! There’s work to do, people to see, places to go. Here are five quick-tips on how to feel a little better when you’re feeling under the weather as a busy bee.

Fennel Seeds

Now I know most of us can’t live without coffee. I myself am not a huge coffee drinker (it dehydrates the skin), but I see how much it can affect someone’s day. When you’re sick and congested, you want to try and stay away from dehydrating liquids. Fennel is really beneficial for sick bodies as it eases nausea, calms any inflammation, helps with digestion and appetite, heals a bad headache, and aides the liver in flushing out any toxins in the body. You can add honey or sugar to it if you need the caffeine kick. Even then, it will still be much more beneficial than coffee on a sick day. Every time I drink this, everything is alright after an hour or so. Green tea helps as well, but this is the real magic juice.

Peppermint Oil

The strong smell of peppermint essential oil helps with my congestion. Even just opening the bottle, taking a whiff, and putting it back in my purse is a great pick me up. I have to have this on deck when I’m not feeling my best. It’s common to have sore shoulders when you’re sick. I love to mix it in with any lotion or any other oils to rub on a sore spot on the body. It truly eases that area and helps the with inflammation. Massaging coconut oil with a few drops of peppermint oil into the scalp helps to relieve headaches, and it helps your hair grow too!

Taking Real Vitamin C

No, I don’t mean Emergen-C. I won’t judge if that’s what you like. However, I will always encourage taking vitamin C pills alone. If you take a look at the ingredients of Emergen-C, there is sugar, fructose, and dye. Sure, it has all those vitamins that help you heal, but when a vitamin is mixed in with fillers, it will not be effective in the long run. It may make you feel good in the moment (possibly a placebo effect), but there are some long term issues that comes with the consequence of intaking fillers. A pure Vitamin C pill with no filler or aluminum is the best option to go with. It boosts the mood, and I feel like I can take on all the meetings I have ahead of me. It’s quick and easy to pop one.

Look Good, Feel Good

Don’t force yourself to feel uncomfortable. Wear the comfiest work clothes you have. Take it easy on yourself. Put your best face on, makeup, hair-do, what ever makes you feel like you are having a normal day. When I look my best, I feel my best. This will help you get through the day. Confidence is key.

Taking A Break, Meditation

When things are getting too stressful, it’s okay to take a break. Step outside and do some breathing exercises, check up on the gram, do what calms your mind. I’m the most productive when I am at ease. There are personalities out there that are most productive under pressure. I was one of those all throughout college. Then I tried something new, and trust me when I say taking a break feels so much better. Especially when you don’t feel like being where you are in that moment.
